Prep

This Term in Prep the students will explore the National Anthem and the Killara School Song and learn to sing both.  They will be introduced to dance and movement through party dances, like; the Macarena, The Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey and More. They will also explore the world of instrumental music, playing untuned percussion instruments, playing the beat of the National Anthem and the School Song.

Week 5 -7 Term 1:

The students watched a video on Youtube about Percussion Instruments.

Afterwards the students had a turn at playing some percussion instruments and learnt about the 3 categories of instruments in the Percussion Family, Scraping, Hitting and Shaking Instruments.

Week 4 Term 1:

This week the students continued to leaner the lyrics of the National Anthem and the School Song.  They revised the chicken dance and learnt the Macarena.  They acted like robots, jelly and monsters to dance the movements of the macarena.  The students also listened to the story “It’s time to sleep you crazy sheep”.  The students discussed the book and looked at the things that tell us that the story isn’t true.

Week 3 Term 1:

This week the students continued to learn the lyrics of the National Anthem.  They discussed the meaning of the words and learned about the song’s origin and history.  The students also continued to learn the lyrics of the School song. To introduce the students to dance and movement, the students learnt the chicken dance and learnt the history of the dance.
