The students will be involved in a Musical Futures Project where they will work in groups to learn how to play a song of their choice and an instrument of their choice. The students will learn to play music by ear, read some basic music notation, learn to work together towards a common goal as well as learning to question and pose problems and take responsible risks. They will also learn to create, use their imagination, innovating, persisting, listen to others with understanding and empathy and apply past knowledge to new situations.
Week 8 Term 1:
The students took a survey that will help them evaluate their learning this term and also to evaluate the way performing arts is being learnt. The results will be used to better provide for the students learning styles. The survey was created online so that the results could be collected and graphed for easy analysis. The results were also discussed with the students so that they could elaborate on their answers if they wished.
Week 5 – 7 Term 1:
The students met in the theatre where 4 band work stations had been set up. The students in year 3 were taught about the Jam Hubs and how to use them, the Year 4s used this as a revision session. The students then chose their station and worked on familiarizing themselves with the instruments the jam hubs and setting goals for what they wanted to achieve in coming weeks.
Week 4 Term 1:
This week the students worked in groups start working on their instruments and asking questions about anything to do with that instrument that they may need to know as part of a band. They also explored the website www.e-chords.com where they were able to search for their song and the singers were able to access the lyrics, the guitarists could see the chords they needed and the keyboard players were able to see they chords. They were also able to access how to play those chords. The drummers had a look at youtube and watched demonstrations of their drum part being played.
Week 3 Term 1:
This week the students put themselves into groups, negotiated with each other to decide on who will play which instruments in their bands, decided upon a song and came up with a name for their band. The students also continued to review the lyrics to the National Anthem by looking at the way lyrics can be combined with different music changing the rhythm patterns and melody lines.
